RECENT EVENTS With the success of the film lab in cities across the country, Cohort has now hosted its first ever New York music lab. This program gives musicians, both professional and amateur, the space, time, and connections to form a band, write original music, and perform it for a live audience at Dead Letter No. 9. Meeting each other for the first time in a rehearsal room in Teatro Latea, the groups were assigned and the participants started brainstorming. The subsequent two weeks were spent writing lyrics, jamming together, creating arrangements, and deciding the direction of the band. The theme for this lab was “things I wish I could tell you.” This resulted in very confessional, vulnerable, and often angsty music with a wide range of genres and instrumentation. Despite the tight deadline, these four bands were able to create cohesive and entertaining sets that got the whole audience at Dead Letter No. 9 up on their feet, feeling the music. Do you want a chance to see your work screened in front of an audience? Then join us for V6 on July 22 at our usual Sutton Studios. If you have a passion for film and need a place to channel your creative energy, this is the place for you. We are looking for emerging writers, directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, etc, who will work with a group of strangers on a short film in two weeks. In that time, friendships form, challenges are met with ingenuity, and a great experience is gained. Though we have resources for rental film equipment, we are looking for participants that have their own mics, cameras, lights, etc. Check out the linktree on our instagram @cohortnyc to sign up for the lab or some support us and buy a ticket to the screening on Aug 5th at Sutton Studios.
