RECENT EVENTS
The time is upon us for Cohort NYC’s fifth ever film lab. On a humid Thursday evening, June 4, participants gathered at 100 Sutton Studios to brainstorm ideas and set schedules for the coming two weeks. With the impending excitement of summer and hopefully good weather for filming, the creators mingled among their groups, sharing their different roles, expertise, and ideas for their short. They have two weeks to develop and shoot a ten to fifteen minute film that follows the theme, “Sorry! My mask fell off.” These are going to be stories with twists, turns and unmaskings.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Don’t miss out on the culmination of two weeks of filmmaking! June 18th at the movie theater at 100 Sutton Studios these artists Cohort will be screening their short films. Come out to support these amazing artists and how much they were able to accomplish in such a short time. Concessions, drinks, and last minute tickets will be available to buy at the venue. If you would like to buy your ticket online, you can find it on the linktree of our instagram @cohortnyc.
CREATOR SPOTLIGHT: SHAYNE SPENCER
Video producer, editor, and director of photography`Shayne Spencer has been with Cohort since its very first session, providing a professional and warm atmosphere in every group he is in. In his beautiful Brooklyn brownstone, on its own floor, he houses the film equipment that he uses for his freelance work doing digital marketing and content creation. His favorite piece of equipment at the moment, or as he describes it, “his work horse” is the Canon HXR-MC88. He loves putting it to the test, rigging it up in fun new ways and surprising himself with different choices.
What keeps him coming back to Cohort is the collaborative spirit and creative challenge. He likens it to reps at the gym, building the strength and endurance to not only generate new work, but share that project with strangers. Shayne is inveterately unflappable and rises to complications with a grace and calm most of us can only aspire to. It’s no surprise that he is often inspired and overcome by random acts of kindness, considering he generously rents out his gear to other Cohort participants at a discounted rate. A devoted father to two young boys, Shayne spends his free time at the park, at his local cafes, listening to lo-fi beats and hip hop, and spending time with his family. A consummate source of good vibes and competence, Shayne is an integral part of the Cohort community. We thank him for all that he has done and just being himself!
